I learned a lot in this time! but now that I am home, it is time to play catch up and do some homework!! (I haven't had homework since college!) so this new chapter of life is very challenging but also exciting!

While in Banff, I did something that i never thought I would do, and that was to hold the Olympic torch! it was pretty sweet!

Upcoming events that are happening with RYFC:

California Breakaway - April 1-11, this is an absolutely amazing trip that i have had the privilege to go on for the last 2 years. 160 highschool kids cram onto 4 buses to go to california! so stinky, so squished, so worth it!!! I highly recommend checking this trip out if you are at all interested in the OC like you've never seen it before!!!

www.calbreak.com

that's all for now!

Jimmy & Regina Youth for Christ

what's happenin?

It's been a while, but this is a much needed update.

First off, Merry Christmas!!! It's that time of the year where people get all crazy in the malls and people drink the eggnog latte's from starbucks, and I prefer the later of the two, they are such great drinks.

But now for the much needed update from what is going on at the Buffalo Lounge, the first semester is over and done, and it was a challenging but rewarding semester, filled with new experiences and great new relationships. Many concerts and movie nights, youth group and coffee houses. It has been a great time. now to look into the future and what it holds for the BL.

We are continuing to have movie nights every 3rd saturday of the month, D4 youth group every monday at 7, and we are going to be promoting many more concerts and many more events.

It is our goal at YFC and the BL to link up with the city and church of Regina to bring more youth into our facility and have a great time in a positive and loving environment.

We can't do this alone, we need help now, more than ever to effectively reach this generation.

To find out how to volunteer time, money, or food or whatever you feel may help our programs, contact us!!

jimmyschimmel@hotmail.com or by phone 1.306.347.1900

IMPACT WEEKEND

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_vOz8E8HJbRc/SvRpLqg8_1I/AAAAAAAAADQ/gwHf2Z6q6cA/s320/impact.002.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5401057502236049234" />
Impacting Reginas youth at the buffalo lounge on November 13/14. If you have felt like nobody cares. YOU have made a change in someones life.

You ARE special!

YOU...YES YOU!!! You are a part of a big scheme of things about how this world works. you are meant to be extra-ordinary. YOU are of value to someone and something.

I feel that in this world, in our short time in these shells of flesh, we have 2 choices. the first being that we can do something, the second is we can do nothing. I have seen that there are a lot of people that pick the second, maybe because it might be easier.

I read a quote the other day that went like this...

"security is mostly a superstition, it does not exist in nature nor do the children of men as a whole experience it, avoiding danger is not safer in the long run than outright exposure. (not literally!) but it is sweet to see the amount of kids coming out on wednesday nights! keep on inviting friends! If you are in High School come check out our wednesday night D4 at the buffalo Lounge from 7-9. or Jr. High on Fridays from 7-9 as well!

We need volunteers for our Lambs Boxing Club! even though Aaron is a rad guy, it takes more than one person to go out every night and hang out with 20-40 kids! WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been going non stop with work lately, it's great that i am busy with stuff, but i feel like i am missing out on a lot right now.
I miss sleep, I miss having a day off, and i miss just being able to read a book. I don't feel like there are enough hours in a day to get anything done on my large list of to do's to actually make a dent. I am going to make a resolution to take a sabbath! sounds great to me. If God took one when he created the universe, why can't I? because really, what good is a burnt out missionary? By Yann Martel called "The Life of Pi" This story intrigues me. So much to the point that that I want to relate to Yann's story. I'm not going to give the low down of this story but more so my thoughts on what I have taken from it so far.

This story changes lives. Not just the readers lives, but the authors as well. in the authors notes, Yann explains that he had the biggest book flop ever and wanted to go on a journey to find a story. a life changing story. and he found that, His life changing story. this story changed his life when he ran into a man that told him "I have a story that will make you believe in God."

He has choices. He could have chose to stay or go. simple. choosing to stay and listen to this man tell him this story, became the new direction and purpose of his life, forever.

I have been really leery about choosing my paths, chalk it up to trust issues, or just the fact that I am a (sort of) play it safe kind of guy. I'm not the best in areas such as discernment and decision making, so given the opportunity, and if i were in Martel's shoes, i probably would have laughed and left. not knowing the wiser about a life changing opportunity.

I'm excited on how this book may or may not have an effect on my life and outcome, but it's going to be a good read, in my opinion, if it can change the life of the person writing it. It just goes to show how meaningful and truthful a story can be when an author is really into it!

If you have read the life of pi, let me know your thoughts.

busiest time of life

I just finished one of the busiest summers of my life, and I am still trying to catch up on my work. seems to be impossible when you have days like this where it is +32 outside and i have my iced tea and blogging post outside! glorious!

something that popped into my head that i felt i should blog on is hymns. I love hymns, so much soul and meaning, unlike the new church music, hymns meant something to the person and the audience. I have a hard time singing in church, and Sarah will agree to that, the songs that we sing every service.

what other type of music has a solid book with piano notes that flow seamlessly with the words in the book. I love it! the best songs in my opinion are hymns.

I have some of my closest friends in church leadership, and as church rock band pastors, and they all do amazing jobs at what they do, but sometimes it just kind of blows my mind how the majority of songs sung in church, the mass produced, generic, soulless songs, just don't have heart. or how we just pick the songs that flow with the sermons, sometimes we just need a good hymn in our lives!!

Music is such an important part of my life, and it is something that i love to relate too, something that lives in me. as natural as my heart beat. I find a lot of my time spent is either listening to music, or humming a tune or air drumming in my car. I have my iTunes rocking right now! I hope that we as people, friends, neighbors, sinners, saints, whomever, never lose that spark where we love what we do and who we do it with. music is the heartbeat of life.

simply WOW!!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 216px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_vOz8E8HJbRc/SleQY38H6QI/AAAAAAAAACA/8t4NOiBZTiU/s320/i2dw5nf19mj29koc1LORUe99o1_r1_500.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356909038787881218" />
This is the best thing I have come across in a long time. I am fortunate to live in a country that allows us to do basically anything we want, believe anything we want and be who we want to be. I am a guy that is forced to live through faith, not forced by anyone, but myself. I put myself in this position, and it's not so bad, stressful at the best of times, but at the end of the day i'm loving it. Also, being put in this position I am a very busy guy with a lot on my plate. Not a bad thing, but my head is elsewhere a lot of the time!

I was walking to the BL after grabbing a coffee at the mall and I always walk through vic park and while I was walking around, I saw the regulars playing hacky sack and hoola hooping...yeah that's right, hoola hooping, when did that become popular again? but regardless, I tried saying hi to some of the familiar faces. but what caught me off guard through me trying to be polite was the fact that one random person beat me too it!!! I was almost left speechless. I was walking through the cancer display and a 40 some year old middle eastern man walked up to me and tapped me on the shoulder and said "i hope you have a good day sir" and walked away, i'll probably never see this man again in my life, but I was left dumbfounded and speechless. such a simple phrase, but I felt on top of the world because of this mans kindness to a complete stranger. he didn't buy me a coffee, he didn't give me a ride home, he just said a little phrase that is worth way more than money can buy! so if you are reading this randomly. I hope you have a good day!

Blessings

Jimmy

the curse is broken people!!

People say bad things happen in "3's"

1. Stolen iPod
2. Computer crashes and can't do my presentation with my media templates.
3. I am an easy going guy, but when people break into other peoples things, a car, a house, whatever. and steal personal belongings, it kind of grinds my gears.

When I got the call that someone broke into Sarah's car today by smashing her car window and stole my iPod, my initial reactions were "is she ok" and "who would actually smash a window for something so juvenile?" but i guess iPods are a hot commodity for stealing. I know a few people that have had theirs stolen. So then my journey of the day begins. I went to every single pawn shop in Regina today. and if anyone sees an iPod that has pictures of me in it and has an In & Out burger sticker large on the back, let me know because i would love to have my music back.

I really don't like doing these kind of posts. I'm not angry, I'm obviously upset. but i really just feel sorry for the guy or gal who thought it was cool or needed a rush to do this to Sarah. some people's kids are so greedy, not just mentally greedy where they want more and more. I'm talking emotionally greedy. If everyone thought about someone else who they are effecting, maybe the world would be a better place to live. What if we lived in a society that focuses on the good rather than how we can get more? What if we lived with goals in mind, and had things to strive for. What if people took time to love one another?
What if?

On the lighter and more posi side, this is another step of faith that I am going to have to overcome. With my job being in the very nature of this event, I realize that the kids that I am trying to help out and raise are people that need to learn to have morals, that need to learn standards, who need love! This is going to be a challenge! I'm excited about the future, even though the present is kinda gloomy!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 188px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_vOz8E8HJbRc/Shryrhma5_I/AAAAAAAAABo/b4DXf1F8hhs/s320/ipod_top_5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339847137768957938" />

I've decided that I need at least 5 summer albums to listen to on regular rotation on my iPod. I don't blog regularly. but I figure it might be a good way to keep my friends, and supporters of what I do in the loop! Props to Tyson Liske on getting me into this blogging thing again! The last time I wrote a blog i was working at cover-all in Saskatoon. that was a very long time ago! Things have changed a lot since then. I'll throw a bit of an update in a short paragraph.

I quit cover-all in may 2008 and moved to swift current where I did some renovations on my parents new loft directly above their bakery. when I finished that I went on tour for a band from Regina called The Fortunate, toured all of July then I got back and got a really bogus construction job where the dude was flakey with keeping his word. a month into that, Ben Snyder got me a job in Regina at Coram construction in October and then I started dating my gorgeous, beautiful GalPal Sarah. Then in January 2009 I got laid off of Coram because of lack of work. Not loving. but I figured I would just go out and grab another construction job, so through some friends I got hooked up and things with that went sour with that, but now I am in the middle of raising my funds to work as the program director of Regina Youth for Christ. I am excited for this. It finally feels like things are where they are supposed to be in my life. Thats my life update!

I don't usually write blogs, mostly because I have this twisted idea that most people wouldn't read or care to read what I have to say. I say that's bogus. Everyone has something to say, on something at least. Everyone believes in something.

I have been tested in so many ways in the last 3 months. I have been wrestling with faith, Faith in myself, Faith in God, Faith in the wrong things. Although I am very grateful for spending time in construction, I can do some renovations and little projects on houses and can re-shingle the roof like a madman! I knew that it wasn't where I was supposed to be, and I was safe. I had consistency, and I battled with God so many times on the idea of trusting Him, until He felt that it was enough of me trying to do things on my own and kicked me out of my comfort zone and did it Himself. I spent so much of my life trying to do things on my own and leave God in the passenger seat. The last month I decided that the only thing I could do was actually give everything up and not do anything by myself and let God take control. I have my support group almost completely set up, which is a miracle in itself. If I tried to do it all myself I wouldn't even be anywhere close to my goal. I told myself before I started with Youth for Christ that it wouldn't be possible for me to get all of my support in place by D Day. and here we are, 2 weeks away and i have 80% in place already. So gnarly. It's like the stories that people tell about people taking missions trips and having no money and then all of the sudden everything is covered the night before they leave. I feel that this is my story about that.

Living through Faith isn't at all easy. I have wanted to give up on so many occasions. Ask Sarah, she has been there to see the worst of it! But really, having faith isn't supposed to be easy. Take Noah and the ark (Gen. 7). People laughed at him when he told them that God was going to flood the earth. Or Abraham when God tested his faith to go and sacrifice his son Isaac (Gen. 22). Both examples of great faith that was greatly rewarded. I in no means say that my faith is perfect. no ones faith is perfect. but it is something that we all should strive for. To live for something greater, to have a life that has meaning and worth.

Blessings

Jimmy
